A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake has struck Indonesia's Flores region. The quake, recorded at magnitude 7.7 by the U.S. Geological Survey, brought down numerous buildings — and that's not all. In a development that put experts on high alert, Indonesia's meteorological agency, BMKG, issued a tsunami warning in the aftermath.

The earthquake hit at 5:58 a.m. local time on Saturday, at a depth of 10 kilometers, in Indonesia's Flores region. The epicenter of the shallow quake was located 68 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Ende, in East Nusa Tenggara province.
